Bischoff's penalty-area activity goes unrewarded in NEC defeat

Noah Bischoff provided a striking attacking statistic for NEC against Telstar, but his involvement in dangerous areas did not produce a decisive contribution. The 20-year-old Dane registered 17 touches inside the opposition penalty area, yet ended the game without either a goal or an assist.
The performance came as NEC suffered their first defeat of the season. Bischoff’s total nevertheless placed him alongside one of last season’s notable Eredivisie figures: Ismael Saibari also managed 17 penalty-area touches for PSV in a single match, doing so against Excelsior before his move to Bayern Munich.
Only Thom van Bergen recorded more touches in an opponent’s box during one Eredivisie game last season. The FC Groningen player reached 18 in a home fixture against PEC Zwolle, leaving Bischoff one short of that benchmark despite his sustained attacking presence against Telstar.
Bischoff is on loan at NEC from Red Bull Salzburg and had already started both legs of the club’s Champions League third qualifying-round tie against Olympiakos Piraeus. In the return match in Nijmegen, he was replaced by Kaj Sierhuis shortly before extra time began. His latest display again underlined his willingness to operate high up the pitch, although this time the volume of touches was not matched by end product or a positive result for NEC.
