Berghuis unfazed by Tsygankov competition at Ajax, says Kraay

Steven Berghuis is not worried about Viktor Tsygankov’s arrival at Ajax and would be comfortable moving back into midfield, according to Hans Kraay Jr. The ESPN presenter discussed the 34-year-old’s outlook after speaking to him following Ajax’s away match against Telstar.

Kraay told FCUpdate that Berghuis is happy operating as a number 10 or drifting in from the right. He said the experienced attacker was not unsettled by Ajax signing Tsygankov, who watched the Telstar game from the stands.

Berghuis underlined his value during that match by scoring Ajax’s second goal and supplying the assists for their first and third. His performance came amid a separate claim, credited by FCUpdate to Voetbal International, that he would be allowed to leave Ajax if he wished.

Kraay nevertheless portrayed Berghuis as relaxed about his role and focused on enjoying the latter stage of his career. Competition with either Tsygankov on the right or Davy Klaassen in midfield would not frustrate him, Kraay argued. “He won’t lose a minute’s sleep over it,” he said of a potential battle with Tsygankov, as quoted by FCUpdate.
