AZ left-back Sam De Grand is reportedly returning to Lommel SK on loan only six weeks after moving to Alkmaar. Voetbalzone, citing Voetbal International, says the 21-year-old will spend the remainder of the season with the Belgian club.
De Grand joined AZ from Lommel for €1.5 million at the end of July and signed a contract running until mid-2030. AZ had anticipated that Mees de Wit could leave, which would have allowed De Grand to serve as cover for Mateo Chávez. De Wit, however, remains at the Eredivisie club.
The young defender has so far featured only for Jong AZ. A temporary move is now expected to provide him with more first-team minutes. NAC Breda also wanted to sign De Grand on loan, according to the report, but the Belgium youth international has opted to play in Belgium’s top division instead.
