AZ player Chávez was shown a red card as Mexico suffered a 3-0 friendly defeat against the United States. The dismissal came midway through the second half, when he continued into an American opponent after the ball had already gone.

According to VI, the punishment appeared relatively severe given the nature of the incident. Nevertheless, it left Mexico a player short at a time when they were already two goals behind and struggling with costly mistakes in defence.

Eighteen-year-old Julian Hall had opened the scoring after half an hour. Mexico created some opportunities of their own, but the United States doubled their advantage shortly after the hour mark when 17-year-old Cavan Sullivan capitalised on a major goalkeeping error and finished with a well-executed lob.

The hosts added a third goal with their numerical advantage. Former PSV player Malik Tillman benefited from further uncertainty in the Mexico defence and completed the 3-0 scoreline with a powerful strike. The United States are also due to play a friendly against Canada during the international period, while Mexico have no further fixture mentioned after this match.
