AZ, FC Groningen, NEC and Sparta Rotterdam each supplied two players to VI’s Eredivisie Team of the Week for matchday two, while none of Ajax, PSV or Feyenoord were represented.

AZ earned recognition after beating FC Utrecht, with Peer Koopmeiners and Weslley Patati both included. Groningen’s victory over ADO Den Haag produced another two selections: Player of the Week Thom van Bergen and forward Brynjólfur Willumsson. It was Willumsson’s second successive appearance in VI’s weekly side.

NEC were rewarded for their comfortable win against Willem II ahead of their Champions League play-off fixture with Bodø/Glimt. Deveron Fonville and Clement Bischoff made the XI, while Sparta’s Marvin Young and Lushendry Martes completed the group of four clubs with two representatives apiece.

Fortuna Sittard goalkeeper Mattijs Branderhorst was selected after narrowly beating Groningen’s Etienne Vaessen to the position. FC Twente’s Daouda Weidmann and SC Heerenveen’s Vasilios Zagaritis were the remaining individual picks. The absence of traditional heavyweights followed an underwhelming round in which PSV edged Excelsior 2-1, Feyenoord drew 2-2 with Go Ahead Eagles and Ajax were held 2-2 by Heerenveen.
