Ajax winger Abdellah Ouazane one booking away from Eredivisie ban
The 17-year-old has collected four yellow cards and could be suspended during Ajax’s upcoming domestic schedule.
Ajax attacker Abdellah Ouazane is one yellow card away from an automatic one-match Eredivisie suspension, according to FCUpdate. The 17-year-old has been booked four times in the league this season, leaving him at risk ahead of a run of important fixtures.
Ouazane received his cautions against PEC Zwolle, Fortuna Sittard, NEC and AZ. If he is shown another yellow card in Ajax’s next game against FC Twente, he will be unavailable for the subsequent meeting with ADO Den Haag.
Should Ouazane avoid a booking against Twente but then be cautioned against ADO, the resulting ban would rule him out of De Klassieker against Feyenoord. Ajax are then scheduled to play home matches against FC Utrecht and SC Cambuur.
The winger has scored twice this season while establishing himself in the Amsterdam side. FCUpdate also reports that he has been selected for Morocco’s senior national team and nominated for Africa’s Talent of the Year award. His disciplinary record has nevertheless become a concern: in the earlier game against NEC, Ouazane escaped with a yellow card for a heavy challenge on Bryan Linssen. Refereeing chief Raymond van Meenen subsequently told ESPN that the incident was close enough to red that the VAR would not have intervened had the on-field referee dismissed him.
