Ajax coach Míchel stresses Mika Godts’ value amid PSG interest

Ajax coach Míchel Sánchez is hoping Mika Godts will be available for Thursday’s Conference League qualifier away to Shelbourne as speculation continues over the winger’s future. Following a 2-0 Eredivisie win at PEC Zwolle, Míchel underlined the 21-year-old’s importance, telling De Telegraaf: “We need him.”
Godts had been expected to start in Zwolle but felt discomfort in his leg after the home match against Shelbourne. He did not train on Friday and, although he wanted to play, Míchel said the Belgian did not feel mentally free during the warm-up. Godts instead began on the bench before appearing as a substitute.
According to De Telegraaf, Paris Saint-Germain have submitted an offer worth more than €40 million. Ajax technical director Jordi Cruijff is reportedly only prepared to sell last season’s leading performer for a significantly larger sum, with PSG expected to return with an improved proposal in the coming week. No agreement has been reported.
Míchel acknowledged that every Ajax player has a price but said the squad would require two different wide options if Godts leaves: a left winger and a right winger capable of adding runs in behind. The coach also admitted Ajax performed poorly against PEC and gave the ball away too easily before Sherel Floranus’ 57th-minute red card shifted the contest. Despite those concerns, Ajax opened their league campaign with a 2-0 away victory.
