Ajax add Argentine centre-back Spina to Jong Ajax squad
The Amsterdam club have continued the international recruitment drive for their second team with another arrival from Atlético Madrid.
Ajax have added Argentine centre-back Spina to the Jong Ajax squad, continuing technical director Jordi Cruijff’s recruitment work beyond the first team. The move from Atlético Madrid was announced on deadline day after having been in the pipeline.
Spina made 28 appearances for Atlético Madrileño, the Spanish club’s reserve side. He also represented Atlético seven times in the UEFA Youth League, including matches against Feyenoord and AZ during the 2023/24 campaign. He will now play his home fixtures at Ajax’s De Toekomst training complex.
The defender joins a growing group of international additions available to Jong Ajax coach Carlos García. Ajax had already recruited left-back Fouad Zahouani from Union Touarga and attacking midfielder Jano Monserrate from Atlético Madrid, while defensive midfielder Abdoulaye Camara arrived on loan from Udinese.
Striker Diego Pugno was also borrowed from Juventus and has made an immediate impact, scoring four goals across his first five appearances. Alongside Ajax’s academy graduates, those signings give García imported options across several areas of his team, from defence through midfield to attack. Spina’s arrival adds another specialist option in central defence and represents Ajax’s second recent addition from Atlético’s set-up after Monserrate.
