ADO Den Haag are hoping to bring Maurice Steijn back as head coach following the dismissal of Peter, according to Voetbal International. The German coach lost his job after a 1-0 defeat at PEC Zwolle, despite having led ADO to the Keuken Kampioen Divisie title last season.

Steijn is viewed within the club as the preferred candidate to steer ADO away from relegation trouble. However, the appointment is not yet complete and the 51-year-old must still decide whether to accept the position. ADO are reported to be optimistic that he will agree to return.

The move would reunite Steijn with his hometown club. He spent several years at ADO as a player before serving three seasons as head coach, leaving in 2014. His subsequent managerial career included spells with VVV-Venlo, Al-Wahda, NAC Breda, Sparta Rotterdam and Ajax, followed by a second period in charge of Sparta. He has been without a club since leaving Het Kasteel last summer.

ADO are 17th in the standings after 11 matches, with one win and six points. Should Steijn accept quickly, he could make his debut as early as the coming weekend in a home fixture against former club Sparta Rotterdam.
