ADO Den Haag have dismissed head coach Robin Peter following a difficult start to their Eredivisie return and a shock KNVB Cup elimination. The promoted side have taken only six points from their opening 11 league games and sit second from bottom.

The decision follows consecutive Eredivisie defeats against SC Heerenveen and PEC Zwolle. ADO were also knocked out of the cup on penalties by amateur side Excelsior’31, who play three levels below them. Their sole league victory was a notable 2-1 win over reigning champions PSV last month.

ADO said a change in technical leadership had become necessary because survival remains the club’s main objective. Assistant coach Levi Schwiebbe will take charge on an interim basis, starting with Saturday’s home fixture against Sparta Rotterdam before the international break.

Peter, 39, led ADO to the Keuken Kampioen Divisie title and promotion last season. Technical director Mark Wotte praised that achievement while confirming the separation. Peter is the third Eredivisie coach to lose his job this season, following Henry van der Vegt at PEC Zwolle and John Stegeman at Willem II. Dennis van der Ree is serving as PEC’s interim coach, while Willem II have appointed Jurgen Streppel.
