ADO Den Haag have added Othniël Raterink to their squad from Serie A side Cagliari, bringing the young defender back to the Netherlands. The move gives ADO the specialist right-back they had been seeking following their opening league defeat by AZ.

Left-footed centre-back Milan Hokke filled the position in that match, but technical director Mark Wotte said the club wanted another natural option. “We were very specifically looking for reinforcements at right-back,” Wotte said in comments published by ADO and reported by Voetbal International. He explained that the position was not yet covered by two players within the squad, making a quick addition important.

Wotte described Raterink as a young, talented and versatile defender who has already gained professional experience. He also highlighted the player’s attacking approach as a good fit for ADO’s intended style of play.

Raterink had been with Cagliari since the beginning of the calendar year after joining the Italian club from De Graafschap. He previously impressed on the right flank in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie and came through De Graafschap’s academy. During the 2024/25 season, the Achterhoek club also sent him on loan to Bayer Leverkusen.
